Comparing Apples to Apples

I had a customer today ask me why our baskets were more expensive than a competitors. Honestly, initially, I was stumped on what to say. The second thing that came to mind was the old adage “you get what you pay for”. We had provided this customer with many years of service beyond reproach, as well as beautiful, carefully designed baskets to meet and exceed their expectations. After our phone call ended, I started exploring the question more thoroughly.

Besides the fact that we use decorative, patterned, thicker cellophane to ensure that not only does your gift basket look beautiful, but also that it gets there in one piece, while many companies skimp and use clear, lower grade, cello which isn’t as attractive and also tends to have a higher breakage potential.

Besides the fact that all of our bows are hand made, while many companies cut corners and use pull bows to save time, again not nearly as attractive and, in my opinion, it cheapens the perceived value of the gift.

Besides the fact that we only use name brand, high quality, taste tested, products that we order in fresh for the holiday season.

Lets not even consider my over 23 years of experience in the gifting industry and that I take a personal interest in ensuring all of my clients get the best service, always.  Even in our off hours, I check emails, phone messages etc so that my customers do not wait until the next day or after the weekend to have their concerns addressed.

The real reason customers should buy from us is because, I won’t create, design or send a gift that I would be embarrassed or disappointed to receive myself, even if it means losing the sale. You see, to me, if you are going to give a gift, be it expensive or less so, the presentation (what we see, touch and smell initially) is what makes it truly special.  If you send a box of $300 chocolates, but do a shoddy wrapping job and paste on a cheap bow, the presentation and “AWE” you were hoping for will be diminished.  It doesn’t matter that inside that mess is the best chocolates on the planet.

When we send one of our gifts out, I know, we are representing you. We are representing your feelings of thankfulness for another person or groups’ business, friendship, love, etc.  You are communicating your feelings of appreciation, love, friendship through this gift, I want to ensure that those thoughts and feelings come through loud and clear and I am not going to do it with cheap ribbon and shoddy workmanship.  I stand for quality, workmanship, fair pricing and honesty. I just cannot and won’t do business any other way.

We don’t just drop the gift and run, either.  If there is a problem, which quite frankly, rarely happens since we take such great care, we are still going to be here to listen and address your concerns.  If you have a problem, I have a problem, and I will handle it the way I would hope someone would do for me. Once I am aware of the issue, it becomes my problem to solve, not your problem to hassle with.
